Shakespeares First Folio

There are less than 240 copies William Shakespeare’s First Folio, which contains 36 plays by the famous bard, but now a previously unknown copy has been uncovered in the library of Saint-Omer, a town in northern France.

Known officially as Mr. William Shakespeares Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies, it was published in 1623. In 2006, a copy of the First Folio was sold at auction for $6.8 million.

Librarian Remy Cordonnier was preparing an exhibition on Anglo-Saxon authors in September when he discovered the book. Since it was in English and missing its title page, it is believed that previous readers and librarians did not how valuable this work was.

“It was very emotional to realize we had a copy of one of the most famous books in the world,” Mr. Cordonnier told media. “I was already imagining the reaction it would cause.”
